Dallas County Makes H1N1 Vaccines Available To Uninsured, High-Risk Residents

By Suzanne Marta, November 3, 2009

Starting Wednesday, Nov. 4, Dallas County will begin administering some 10, 000 H1N1 vaccines on a walk-in basis to people who don’t have health insurance or a medical provider AND fall into in one of the designated priority groups.

The vaccinations, which are free, will be made available at the Dallas County Health & Human Services clinic, 2377 N. Stemmons Freeway, Dallas (see map), from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Here’s the list of who is eligible:

  • Pregnant women
  • People who live with or care for children younger than 6 months of age
  • Healthcare and emergency medical services personnel
  • Persons between the ages of 6 months and 24 years old
  • People ages of 25 through 64 years of age who are at higher risk for severe H1N1 infections because of chronic health disorders

NOTE: Proof of Dallas County residency is required to receive an H1N1 vaccine at the Dallas Health & Human Services walk-in clinic.

Dallas County took appointments to administer H1N1 vaccinations for uninsured Dallas County children who are between the ages of 6 months and 18 years old with medical conditions last week for a three-day period comprising Oct. 30, Nov. 2 and Nov.3.

Officials say more than 60,000 H1N1 vaccines have recently been distributed to medical providers throughout Dallas County, and additional supplies will be available at local pharmacies later this month.

Initial supplies of vaccines are reserved for federally designated priority groups at higher risk for H1N1 flu.
